Our 8th Pastor
Rev. Dr. Kevin D. Miller was appointed Pastor of Carter Community African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica, New York on November 13th, 2010. and served until April 30, 2023. He longest serving Pastor in the history of Carter Community after the Founding Pastor, Rev. Julius C. Carter. Rev. Miller is a native New Yorker and the only child of Lawrence and Viera Miller. He was born and raised in the Washington Heights/Inwood Section of upper Manhattan. After graduating high school, he attended Syracuse University where he majored in Television Production and graduated with a Bachelor Degree. After graduation he worked for both Time Warner Cable and ABC Sports/ESPN.
Rev. Miller holds a Master of Arts degree from Fordham University, Bronx, NY and the Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological School, Madison, NJ. Rev. Miller also holds the Doctor of Ministry (DMIN) degree from Drew Theological School. The DMIN degree is the highest professional degree that can be earned by persons in ministry.
In addition to serving God at Carter Community, Rev. Miller is the Director of Theological Admissions for Drew and Co-Founder of Chosen for Service Enterprises. Rev. Dr. Miller is Affiliate Faculty and teaches in the Doctor of Ministry program for Drew Theological School. The ministry at Carter Community is growing to God’s glory, while impacting the local and international communities. Rev. Dr. Miller has been blessed to preach and teach internationally in Malawi, South Korea and Puerto Rico. He is also a life member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and remains extremely active in the community service efforts of the organization.
He was ordained Itinerant Deacon in 2003 and Itinerant Elder on April 2nd, 2005. Rev. Dr. Kevin D. Miller was appointed Pastor of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Boonton, New Jersey on April 3rd, 2005. He served there faithfully for 5+ years until his assignment to be the pastor of Carter Community AME Church in Jamaica, Queens. In addition, Dr. Miller is the New York Annual Conference Chairman of the Board of Christian Education and a 2017 FPWA (Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies) Social Justice Fellow.
Rev. Miller holds the distinction of being the last Pastor of Carter Community with a link to the Founders. He had the blessing of being the Pastor of Mother Coreania Hayman Carter. He served as the Pastor of Carter Community during a once in a lifetime COVID-19 pandemic leading the church into the technological age. Under his leadership community outreach increased with the Community Experience, engagement with social justice issues were magnified and the God was absolutely glorified. All Rev. Miller wanted to do was give God glory.
He is married to his Queen, his prayer partner, his best friend, his soul-mate, his confidant, and his partner in life expression, Mrs. Myra Y. Miller, CPA. First Lady Miller was instrumental in leading the Missionaries and starting the two Youth Ministries: Children's Academy and Kingdom Keepers for Christ which helped to shape future Christian youth leaders committed to faith and community.. Together they have two daughters, Kyyra LeeAnn and Makyyla Sarai. Rev. Miller went on to be the Pastor of St. Matthew's Community AME Church of Hollis (Queens).
